FROM THE PRESIDENT

August 2006

I’d like to take this time to thank everyone for making my job as president so easy. Your attending meetings, ideas, planning events, and support is what keeps our club FUN and EXCITING. Half the year is already gone, but we have many more events to come. Plan to attend as many as you can, because we guarantee lots of fun. So keep your eyes open for those email reminders.

Thanks for the wonderful turn out at the July meeting. It was great to see so many visitors (some who even joined the club that night) as well as old members who have been absent recently. Sal Marino even dropped in to see us (Prez of the North Shore Corvette Club & Member of MSGCCC)!

Please keep your calendars open for Cruisin the Coast 2006. Dates, times, locations and events are slowly developing due to the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and we will update you as we know more. (Oct. 1-8)

I hope you have been visiting our club website and enjoying the photographs of our past trips to Vicksburg, MS and the Mobile Greyhound Track. http://www.msgccc.com

Notable upcoming events:

Vettes at the Village – Aug. 12th, 2006. Sandestin, FL

        ExtraVETTEganza – Sept. 16th, 2006. Kenner, LA

Tail of the Dragon (TN) – Oct 19th -22nd, 2006. Deals Gap, NC

We will be leaving at 9:00 am on Friday morning to caravan from Exit 50, Park n Ride in Ocean Springs, MS. The New Orleans area Corvettes will be joining us.

Expect stops at the various welcome centers and such. Bring your “Family Band” radios and chargers (if you have a set).

At last month’s meeting I asked the club to make suggestions on how to improve the Mississippi Gulf Coast Corvette Club. If anyone has recommendations for guest speakers, slide presentations, demonstrations, etc please do not hesitate to pass that info on to me. This is YOUR Corvette Club – don’t hesitate to offer up ideas, destinations, events, and such. We love to drive and show our cars off and the fellowship is an added bonus!

Our deepest sympathy goes out to our club members who have had recent tragedy and loss. Becky and Bob Turner, Deanna and Darrell Suber, and Darleen and Tommy Crews. You are all in our prayers during this difficult time.

Till then, Save the Wave!

Minutes of the MSGCCC Meeting

Thursday, 27July 2006

Congratulations, guys! We had 45 members attend our July meeting – a great turnout. Also, Sal Marino, President of the North Shore Corvette Club (Mandeville, LA?) attended our meeting as well. Thanks, Sal, for the show of support.

We had several new members at the meeting, so Robert (our President) asked them to introduce themselves, which they did. A big, hearty welcome to you and we hope we will be seeing you at our future meetings and events.

In Darrell Hill’s absence, Johnny Blair gave the report on Cruisin’ the Coast (CTC). There are presently 3,846 cars registered. 540 sites have been sold to 140 vendors for the Swap Meet (this is approximately the same number as last year). Approximately 100 vendor sites will be located inside the Coliseum. Regarding Site Venues: There will be no Long Beach activities; the Car Corral will move to a location yet to be decided, as will the Kick Off Parade; and the Bay St. Louis venue will move to the Old Train Depot. The Biloxi VA Cruise-in will be Tuesday, 3 October, from 10 AM – 1 PM, with live bands playing. The golf tournament has been cancelled. Tickets will be sold for a 32 Ford, 3-window Rat Rod (being built by Street Dreams) which will be given away next year. Hotel/motels space is available – there are approximately 6,000 rooms available now with the hope of 9-10 thousand rooms being available by 1 October. Restaurants and service stations may be the bigger problem. Wal-Mart will be joining CTC as a sponsor. The Waveland Wal-Mart will hold its grand opening on August 4th from 4-8 PM. They have asked CTC to support a Cruise-in that evening and asked for maximum support from sponsor clubs. The Corvette Rendezvous is on! It will be held at the Cedar Pops parking lot (the D’Iberville Cruise-in location). Special thanks goes out to our fellow Club member Todd Delano (Barbara Delano realty), for his kind offer of the use of his parking lot. The Rendezvous will be held 7 October from 6-9 PM.

Jim Alverson, V. L. Clark, and Robert Kline gave a report on the recent Vicksburg trip. It sounds like they had a great time. Maybe we’ll have more folks in attendance next year.

Several events are coming up. I won’t go into detail here because information will be made available, both by e-mail and on our web site. Those events are: the LA group’s trip to Tin Lizzie’s; our trip to Destin for Vettes in the Village; the return to the Tail of the Dragon.

On Saturday, August 5th, there will be a car show at the Joppa Temple on Highway 67, Woolmarket, during the day. Then, that night, the Club-supported Cruise-in at Edgewater Mall will be held from 6-9 PM.
