FROM THE PRESIDENT

November 2006

With the holidays just around the corner, we do have a few more events before the new year begins.  Our club meeting at Preston Hood Chevrolet was a huge success with nearly 60 members in attendance.

I appreciate Chef Domino for catering the feast for one and all!

October was a kickinÕ month which started with ÒCruisinÕ the CoastÓ.  I want to personally thank all who volunteered and made it such a great success.  This yearÕs presence of our club was acknowledged and greatly appreciated. (recall the 500-600 cars that became 1600 at the Sock Hop?).

Mid-month we caravanned up into the Smokey Mountains and the stories will continue on into next year about the wild and wonderful time had up on Tail of the Dragon.  Gentlemen and ladies were alert behind the wheel for all 318 curves of the 11 mile run down to the ÒTree of ShameÓ at Deals Gap.  Thanks go out to Felix and Mary for executing such a wonderful trip!   70+ Corvettes were in attendance, by the way.

Congrats to the NCRS Louisiana chapter.  The show was a great success and several MSGCCC members participated.

In November we will be planning our trip to Bellingrath Gardens over in lower Alabama.  This year a dinner cruise will precede the ÒHoliday in LightsÓ display in the gardens.  This will be the Saturday after Thanksgiving Ð Novermber 25th.

Please note that our Club Christmas Party is December 1st.  This event is open to MSGCCC members and their guests.  There will be a brief club meeting at the beginning to cover officer elections & finalize our plans to be in the Monticello, MS Christmas Parade on the 2nd.  (more info via email and club website)

Nominations are as follows:

President Ð Robert Kline

Vice Pres.  Ð Jada Cooper

Secretary Ð Ed Nunenmacher

Treasurer Ð Deanna Suber/Jim Harrington

Sunshine Person Ð Becky Turner/Rachel Syrie

For those of you not going with us to Belligrath, please have a safe and filling Thanksgiving and we hope to see you at our December Club Christmas Party as well as the ÒReturn (trip) to the Tail of the LizardÓ the next day.

Till then, Save the Wave!

Minutes of the MSGCCC Meeting

Thursday, 26 October 2006

By any measure, our October meeting at Preston Hood Chevrolet was a huge success.  We had 55 members in attendance Ð best of all, we had several new members attend and even signed up several more.  Robert introduced the members and had other Club members introduce those that were attending for the first time.

Joe Fleming discussed CruisinÕ the Coast (CTC).  Joe passed on that he, and the CTC folks, was most impressed by the number of members who showed up to work (on short notice) the Sock Hop in Pass Christian.  We expected maybe 500-600 cars and ended up parking over 1,000.  Great job, guys!

Jim Alverson next talked about our very successful Corvette Rendezvous on the last Saturday night of CTC.  We had approximately 138 Vettes attend the show, which was a great turnout.  Preston Hood provided us with $300 worth of give-aways.

John Blair covered our recent trip to the Tail of the Dragon with the Louisiana Vetters.  All of us experienced some bad weather on our way up Thursday.  Friday wasnÕt much better.  The weather was overcast and drizzlely (I know thatÕs not a word, but it describes the Friday weather quite well).  When we met at the head of the Dragon, at the gravel pit, several of us had to park across the road because of a lack of space in the pit.  It was still a great run and JohnÕs description of the run was right on the mark.  What a thrill!

On 9-11 November, the Louisiana Chapter of the NCRS will be holding their show in Gonzales, LA.  Please contact Carl Hamilton for further details.

The Club is trying to put together a dinner cruise at Bellingrath Gardens near Mobile.  In order to reserve the boat only for Corvette folks, we will need 70 folks to sign up.  Rain is putting out several e-mails on the subject.  Please read them and respond if you plan to attend.  The New Orleans Clubs have been invited to join us.  After the cruise, we will be viewing the Christmas lights at the Garden.  Anyone who attended last year knows that it is a beautiful sight and can work wonders to get one in the Christmas spirit.

Robert made a point of asking all Club members, not only those in attendance, to speak up if they have any events that they would like to see the Club sponsor.  This includes local events of any kind as well as cruises.

The ClubÕs Christmas party will be held Friday, December 1, at MontanaÕs.  The next day (Saturday) the Club will be running the Tail of the Lizard up to Monticello and participating in that cityÕs Christmas parade.  All members are encouraged to go along and prepare to have a great time.  More information will be forthcoming as the date gets closer.

Nominations were accepted for Club Officers for the 2007 Calendar Year.  It was reported that with two exceptions, all officers offered to continue to serve for another year.  The two exceptions were Treasurer (Jim Harrington has offered his name in nomination) and Sunshine Person (Rachel Syrie has offered her name in nomination).  The final voting will occur at the November meeting.
