FROM THE PRESIDENT

October 2006

IÕd like to thank everyone who came to the Corvette Rendezvous.  Could have not asked for better weather and the turn out was exceptional.  I want to thank James Alverson, Darrell Hill, Rain Jaudon (Donn Hupp), and all of the Volunteers who jumped up to help us park, arrange, plan, and clean up at this years event.

For the first Rendezvous since Katrina, I can only imagine how large an event we will have next year!

CruisinÕ the Coast:  Club participation was up from previous years.  Thanks again go out to Darrell Hill and Joe Flemming for their timeless effort and continued stream of information on this enormous event.  IÕd like to especially thank those who came out last minute to assist with parking cars at TuesdayÕs Sock Hop in Pass Christian.  An estimated 500-800 cars turned into over 1500 cruisers and civilians.  Great Job everyone!

Another fun get away was the ÒEarly Risers @ Beignet StationÓ in Slidel, LA.  A few MSGCCC members trekked on to the French Quarter for an afternoon of food and drink while taking in the sights and sounds of New Orleans.

This week several MSGCCC members are caravanning to tame the Tail of the Dragon up at Deals Gap.  Tails to Tell will overflow this monthÕs meeting, as over 70 Corvettes are conquering the mountain roads this year.

As a reminder, nominations for your 2007 Officers and Board will be handled at OctoberÕs club meeting on the 26th.  If you (or someone you know) is interested in running for office, please email that info to John Blair. blair_john@bellsouth.net

Elections will be held at the November club meeting.

October is full of fun and excitement and there will be lots of activities on the horizon.   The Vetter Halves will be meeting at John and Cathy BlairÕs home on October 29th.

Directions and info have already gone out via email.

And as always, I am reminding you that this is YOUR Corvette Club.  If there is an event you would like for us to attend, a function we could organize, or anything you would like to see us do as a club, do not hesitate to bring it up!

Till then, Save the Wave!

Folks, there were 73 members in attendance at our September meeting.  This is an absolutely wonderful turnout!!  YÕall should take a bow for supporting our Club.  Every time I think we canÕt get a bigger turnout, you guys surprise me.  YÕall should be proud of yourselves.

President Robert Kline opened the meeting by having several new members introduce themselves.  Welcome aboard, Guys!

Ken Kline gave a report on the Extravetteganza that several Club members attended in New Orleans recently.  Ken said it was a great turnout and everyone had a great time.  Unfortunately, the New Orleans weather didnÕt cooperate and the show ended a little early due to the rain.

Last Saturday, the Club supported several events.  A bunch of us went to the Coke plant on Hwy 49 to help stuff envelopes for the upcoming CruisinÕ the Coast (CTC).  Four of our members attended the car show held at Keesler AFB.  Last, but not least, we had several of our folks trek up to Hattiesburg for the show at Ryan Chevrolet.  It was reported that several of our members were winners of trophies.

Joe Fleming gave the first report on CTC.  The Car Corral will be held at the Treasure Bay parking lot.  We will be provided a tent and a Port-a-Let.  It will cost $25 for anyone who wants to put their car up for sale at the Corral.  We will be required to take down the banner each evening at 5:00 PM.  Joe or Darrell Hill will be there to accept the banner and will bring it back each morning.  Joe signed up several folks to work shifts that were short of bodies.  Darrell Hill then went into detail about our responsibilities during the week.  We will be parking cars at Jones Park in Gulfport (where the Rice Pavilion used to be) on Sunday, 3:30 Ð 7:00 PM; Monday, 4:30 Ð 8:00 PM; and Wednesday, 4:30 Ð 8:00 PM.  Club members are reminded to look up the person who has the sign-in sheet and make sure to sign in and out.  The Club makes money, depending on how many hours our members put in during CTC.  Darrell also stated that the folks at the dÕIberville venue need help on Saturday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM.  Anyone who would like to put in some hours on Saturday is encouraged to go out and help.  Again, be sure to sign in and out as Club members.  Any individual members (families are excluded) who volunteers for 24 hours will have their registration for 2007 paid for by CTC.  By the way, the MSGCCC is considered a HOST CLUB of  CTC.

On Saturday evening, October 7, we will once again be hosting the CORVETTE RENDEZVOUS.  We have been most fortunate to have several sponsors who have stepped forward with funds to help defray the costs - Carl Hamilton, Preston Hood Chevrolet, DelanoÕs Real Estate, Gulfport Electric, and Gulf Coast Laundry.  We canÕt thank these folks enough for their support.  James Alverson will be in charge of the parking and can use as much help as he can get.  If youÕd like to help James out, please show up at the Cedar Popp Shopping Center at 4:30 PM.  Please, do NOT wear your CTC shirt.  The Rendezvous is NOT a part of the CTC.  It is only for Corvette owners to gather and engage in fellowship and admiration of each otherÕs Vette.  It is hoped that all Club members will come out and ÒPass a good time.Ó

A nominating committee was selected for choosing Club officers for 2007.  Members are Johnny Blair, Chairperson, Jim Harrington, and Joe Fleming.

Jada is head of the Christmas Party Committee and will need help.  It is hoped that many ladies will step forward to assist in the preparation.  Rhythm and Rain will provide music and I know our silver-voiced female members will lend their talents to make the Party a great success.
