FROM THE PRESIDENT

June2006

I hear the ladies had a wonderful Mother’s Day this past month. Certainly hope all you dads will have a relaxing Father’s Day this month.

We need to take a little time now to pray for a silent 2006 Hurricane Season. Here is to hoping for a much needed break for the MS Gulf Coast.

I’d like to welcome our new Club Members: Gary and Patricia Cowan with their 1987 Corvette (Perkinston), Tommy and Darleen Crews and a 1976 White Corvette (Hattiesburg), Bruce Dye has a 2003 Electric Blue Corvette (Ocean Springs, MS), Richard Paglon owns a 2003 50th Anniversary (Gulfport), Richard Conover (Long Beach), and Tamara Casey (Long Beach).

The weather was just incredible on April 29th for the SeaBee Base Open Car Show in Gulfport, Mississippi. Congrats to our winners and all those who attended. Also, for our first OUTDOOR Vettes by the Shore (May 20th), I’d like to personally thank all of our club members (and out of town help – especially Ralph and Felix) who participated and helped out. The numbers were amazing with 105 Corvettes in attendance. A special kudos to Darrell and Deanna Suber for organizing again this year. Great Job!

Thanks, also, to Rain Jaudon for keeping the club updated on the National Corvette Museum webcast of Ed Nunenmacher’s and Carl Hamilton’s Museum Delivery of their new Corvettes on May 22nd. Congrats you two!

Another show of appreciation goes out to Rain for taking us on an incredible run of the Tail of the Lizard IV, part 1, on May 27th (MS Hwy 587). 13 Corvettes, 1 rice bike, a Firebird, and a black Acura - what a combination! We did chase a new GTO for a few curves.. was nice of him to show us the way thru the curves and eat up all the bugs for a few miles. A quick snack at Malta’s in Monticello and soon we were on our way to McComb, Mississippi to have a filling lunch at The Dinner Bell. (Thanks Ken Kline) Ask us about the “Lazy Suzy” at the Dinner Bell!

Stay tuned for Tail of the Lizard IV, part 2, on June 3rd. Departing Pilot Truck Stop at 8 am, cruising up to Monticello, MS for lunch and a visit of Cooper’s Ferry, and then returning to the coast that afternoon.

We have many more events on the horizon being planned by our members and board, so keep your Vettes fueled up and ready to roll.

June 10th – Ride to Mobile, AL

June 11th – Vetter Halves meeting at Shirley Harrington’s house in Ocean Springs, MS

June 27th – Club Board Meeting (TBA)

June 29th – Club Meeting at Montana’s in Gulfport, MS

 Till then, Save the Wave!

MEETING MINUTES

25 May 2006

There were 36 members in attendance at the meeting. This was a very good turnout. However, the more the merrier – we hope to see more of you at the June meeting. Also, there were some members in attendance that we hadn’t seen in some time. It’s great that y’all came! We hope y’all will become regular attendees.

Our President, Robert Kline, opened the meeting by welcome several new members, whose names I don’t have as yet. Please forgive. I was late arriving at the meeting and didn’t get your names, but a big hearty welcome to all.

Darrell Hill gave us a report on Cruisin’ the Coast (CTC). At present, there are 3800 cars registered. 46 of our Club members have volunteered to work during the CTC – this is great. Darrell is working on a possible Corvette Rendezvous during the CTC. More details will follow.

The Club is having business cards printed for members to pass out to Vette owners who are not, as yet, members of our Club.

Three of our members won awards at the Seabee Base car show on 29 April. We had a good turnout for a great show.

Vettes by the Shore (VBS) was discussed. It was a resounding success. We had 102 Vettes show up, which was about double what most of us expected. Having the Corvette Museum at the show was a great accomplishment for our Club – considering the conditions.

Regarding the aftermath, we had some minor problems with some of our members doing burnouts in the Mall parking lot. We had a complaint from the Mall Security folks about the dangers of such activities. Robert asked that all members conduct themselves in a proper manner, as Corvette folks normally do, when we are on someone else’s property.

This Saturday, 3 June, we are returning to the Tail of the Lizard. Rain has graciously put out several e-mails on the cruise.

The Vicksburg trip is scheduled for 7/9 July. Robert spoke to it at the meeting and more information will follow.

On June 10th, we will be returning to one of our favorite spots – Felix’s on the Causeway in Mobile. Shopping and other activities will take place in advance. We hope to have a great turnout for this cruise. As one of our New Orleans’ friends likes to say “We eat to cruise, and we cruise to eat!”

On July 15th, our New Orleans’ friends will visit the Mobile Greyhound Park. We are thinking about going over to join them for dinner on Saturday.

11/13 August is the Vettes in the Village at San Destin (?), Fl. Robert spoke to it at the meeting. However, if anyone has any questions, please contact Robert.

Bad news: Terry Holtz’s Vette got hit and damaged. Good luck with the repairs, Terry.

There will be a “Ladies of the Club”, better known as “Vetter-Halfs”, meeting at Shirley Harrington’s house on 11 June.

Carl Hamilton’s ZR1 passed a NCRS performance verification at the NCRS meet in Auburn, IN. (I think it was Indiana). On the return trip to watch Carl take Museum Delivery of his 2006 ZO6, our friend Mike Leeds had to be hospitalized in Bowling Green. I think Mike may not be all the way back but he is getting better.

Corvette Trivia

Twenty 1986 Corvettes were sent to Lotus in England to be converted into LT5 powered prototypes for the ZR1 project.

In 1981, Corvettes were produced with two different types of paint. Lacquer was applied at the St. Louis plant, and enamel was applied at the new Bowling Green plant.
